Okullarda "inek" olarak tabir edilen öğrencileri hatırlarsınız. Kafalarını kitaptan kaldırmazlar, derslerden daha önemli bir hadise yoktur hayatlarında ve ilerleyen yıllarda ya matematikçi olurlar ya da fizikçi. Bazıları şansı yaver giderse bilim dalında Nobel ödülü bile alabilir. Ama gelin görün ki insanlarla daha doğrusu karşı cinsle ilişkilerin denklemini bir türlü çözemezler. The Big Bang Theory, tam da böyle iki arkadaşın öyküsünü anlatıyor. Leonard ve Sheldon adlarındaki iki arkadaşın oturdukları apartmanda yan dairelerine yeni bir komşu taşınır. Adı Penny olan bu komşu güzeller güzeli bir sarışındır. Üstelik maceralı bir ilişkiden daha yeni sapasağlam ayakta çıkmıştır. Penny, zekaları gereğinden fazla ilerlemiş, ancak kızlar konusunda oldukça geri kalmış bu yeni iki komşusuna hayat hakkında öğretebileceği bir şeyleri olduğunu düşünmektedir.
